A new chapter for Clark

On November 2, we announced an $11 million seed round led by Touring Capital, with returning investors Marathon Management Partners, Rerail, and Sofeon Ventures. Our total funding is now $16 million.

This is a step toward the kind of working day we believe audit teams should have: less time assembling scattered information and rebuilding context, and more time understanding the client, investigating exceptions, and reaching well-supported conclusions.

Keep the engagement moving

An engagement rarely moves in a straight line. A supporting document arrives late. A question goes back to the client. A reviewer needs to understand which version of a schedule was used. Each pause creates coordination work before anyone can get back to the accounting.

We’re building Clark around continuity. Client requests, evidence, prepared work, and review decisions belong in the same engagement record. When one person hands work to another, the next person should be able to see what’s ready, what’s missing, and where their judgment is needed.

Introducing Clerks

Clerks are AI employees assigned to audit engagements. They examine records, execute procedures, and assemble workpapers. When information is missing, they follow up with the client, track the response, and resume the work when it arrives.

Clerks run on Material Intelligence, Clark’s AI for carrying out defined tasks within your firm’s procedures. Your team sets the client, reporting period, source records, and expected result. Those boundaries let the team delegate work without writing a new instruction for every step.

Teams can discuss a delegated workpaper or reconciliation through Slack, Microsoft Teams, or email. Staying connected through familiar channels helps make delegation part of the team’s daily workflow.

Your firm’s standards stay at the center

Every firm has a way it expects an engagement to be performed and reviewed. Clark carries those expectations into the work through approved templates, assigned responsibilities, and review requirements. The engagement starts from the firm’s methodology, with a clear path from preparation to approval.

Evidence needs to travel with the result. A reviewer should be able to trace a figure to its support, understand the outstanding questions, and follow the decisions that led to approval. Licensed CPAs retain professional judgment, review, and sign-off. More automation should give that judgment a stronger starting point.

What comes next

This round will support hiring across product, engineering, and sales and bring Clerks to more firms and engagement types, including broader opportunities in government audit. We’re also working toward continuous verification: keeping findings current between audits, with a clear record of what was checked and when.

To the firms putting Clark to work, the investors backing this next chapter, and the team building it: thank you. We’re excited to keep building a product that gives audit teams more room to investigate, think, and exercise their judgment.
